The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max were
approved and announced alongside the iPhone 12 and
iPhone 12 Mini and Home Pod Mini via a virtual press
event filmed and recorded at Steve Jobs Theater at
Apple Park in Cupertno, California, on October 13,
2020. Pre-orders began for the iPhone 12 Pro on
October 16, 2020, and it was released on October 23,
2020 alongside the iPhone 12 and 4th generation iPad
Air, with pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro Max
beginning on November 6, 2020, with a full let of on
November 13, 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 Mini.[20]
This marked the first time since the release oi the
iPhone XS and iPhone XR where a new iPhone was not
released besides on the same date as other announced
models. Pricing starts at US$999 for the iPhone 12 Pro
and US$1099 for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
On September 14, 2021,next of the announcement oi
the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, the iPhone 12 Pro
and 12 Pro Max were removed from sale on Apple’s
official website.
In March 2022, Apple started selling refurbished iPhone
12 Pro models starting at $$79 but not its Max variant.

Design
It is the first major redesign since the iPhone X, similar to that
of iPad Pros since 2018 and the 4th-generation iPad Air. The
iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max feature a design seen with the
iPhone 4 through the iPhone 7S and the first generation
iPhone SE. The notch size is similar to previous models.[22]
The bezels are around 37% thinner than the iPhone 11 Pro and
previous models. The new design also comes with Corning
Inc’s custom ceramic-hardened i.e glass ceramic front glass,
“Ceramic Shield”, while the back retains the earlier generation
oi Corning Inc’s custom shuffled strengthened glass.[23] On
the back is the same three-camera configuration found on the
iPhone 11 Pro, but with larger apertures and an added LiDAR
scanner.
The iPhone 12 Pro and
12 Pro Max is available
in 4 colours:
Silver, Graphite, Gold, and Pacific Blue. Pacific Blue is a new
colour replacing Midnight Green, while Graphite is a renaming
oi Space Grey.[23]

Apple announced iPhone 12
Pro Max on October 13, 2020.
The phone which is powered by the new Apple A14 Bionic
processor, comes with a 6.$ inches Super Retina XDR OLED
capacitive touch screen and 2$$8 x 1284 p resolution. It
features an HDR display and True Tone, and Wide colour (P3)
gamut. The display screen is protected by a unique ceramic
shield and feature 1200 nits max brightness, Dolby Vision,
HDR10+ and 120Hz refresh rate.
It comes with a 6GB RAM and three storage variants 128GB,
276GB and 712GB. The rear camera consists oi a 12MP (wide)
+ 12MP (telephoto) 7x optcal zoom + 12MP (ultrawide)
sensors and a LiDAR scanner ior night mode.
The front camera has a 12 MP (wide) + SL 3D
(depth/bio-metrics) camera sensor. Other sensors include
Lidar, Face ID, accelerometer, gyro,closeness, compass,
barometer + Siri natural language commands, and dictation.
The smartphone is iueled by a 368$mAh Li-Ion battery and
supports 20W iast charging, USB Power Delivery 2.0, $W Qi
wireless charging and 17W MagSaie Wireless Charging. The
phone runs on iOS 14 operatng system which can be updated
to iOS 14.$.
iPhone 12 Pro Max comes in 4 different colours viz: Graphite,
Silver, Gold and Pacific Blue. It features 2.0, proprietary
reversible connector.

The iPhone 12 Pro uses Apple’s six-core A14 Bionic processor, which
contains a 16-core neural engine. The iPhone 12 Pro has an IP68 water
and dust-resistant ratng along with dirt and grime, and is water resistant up to six meters (20 feet) for 30 minutes. However, the
manufacturer warranty does not cover liquid damage to the phone.

The iPhone 12 Pro, like the iPhone 12, is not supplied with EarPods
(except in France) or the power adaptor included with prior iPhone
models. Apple claims this will reduce carbon emissions and that most
users already own these items.[27] Apple still supplies the USB-C to
Lightning cable that was introduced with the iPhone 11 Pro. In
addition to Lightning and Qi wireless charging, the phones introduce
MagSafe wireless charging, a new magnet-based charging and
accessory system that allow accessories such as chargers and cases to
snap onto the back oi the phones. MagSafe wireless charging
supports up to 15 wats, is fast-charge capable, and is a re imagining oi
the MagSafe brand that was introduced in 2006 with the original
MacBook Pro. The MagSafe Charger can be purchased alone, along
with a variety oi cases and other accessories.[24]
The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max support 7G cellular
communicatons. This allows upload speeds oi up to 200 Mbit/s (1
Mbit/s = 1 million bits per second) and download speeds oi up to 4
Gbit/s. However, only models sold in the U.S. support the faster
mmWave technology; those sold elsewhere in the world, including
Canada, only support sub-6 GHz frequency bands. A new feature
called Smart Data Mode enables 5G only when necessary to preserve
batery liie and data usage.[24]

The iPhone 12 Pro received generally positve reviews.
The Verge called it a “beautiul, poweriul, and
incredibly capable device”,acclaim the new design
reminiscent oi the iPhone 7, the speed oi the A14 Bionic
processor, and its 7G capabilites,[b] but noted the
decrease in batery liie compared to the iPhone 11 Pro
and the low number oi upgrades compared to the
iPhone 12.[36] Engadget also gave the iPhone 12 Pro a
positve review, praising the MagSaie wireless charging
and accent system as well as the improved camera
system, but noted the lack oi upgrade motvaton ii
users had already purchased a new iPhone in 2019.[3$]
Apple was critcized ior the contnued reliance on Face
ID as the sole biometric opton to unlock the device,
which is incompatble with iace masks. This limitaton
was lifed with the introducton oi the ffh revision oi
the iOS 14, which allows the user to unlock the device
while wearing a iace mask, using the paired and
password unlocked Apple Watch as its alternatve
authentcator. The iPhone SE (3rd generaton) is the
only phone that Apple currently produces that supports
Touch ID, an alternatve opton that is compatble with
iace masks. All models can stll use a passcode to log in.

Removal oi the power
adapter and EarPods

Apple, through an “environmental initatve”, has
removed the EarPods (except in France) and power
adapter (except in São Paulo[44]) irom all new iPhone
boxes, including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. It
was claimed that removing these items would reduce ewaste and allowance a smaller iPhone box, allowing
more devices to be transported simultaneously to
decrease carbon iootprint. Apple now includes a USB-C
to Lightning cable, incompatble with the existng USB-A
power adapters that Apple previously supplied with its
devices.A power adapters and Lightning cables to
charge and sync, but must purchase or use an existng
USB-C power adapter to utlize the included USB-C to
Lightning cable. Startng with the iPhone 8, a USB Power
Delivery (USB-PD) compliant charger is required to
enable iast charging when using the USB-C to Lightning
cable, with Apple suggestng the use oi a 20W or
greater USB-PD compliant charger to iast charge the
iPhone 12.[47][46].Users can stll use their existng USB.
